looking back, 2013 appears full of events, great art shows, successful releases and the discovery of new disciplines. the art show retrospective is headlined by sven piayda´s solo show at clowns & pferde galerie entitled 'imaginary black forest' parallelly to oscar ledesma´s solo show 'el secreto del mal'. here zany music relesed a dvd escorting the art show featuring six music videos from AESTATE directed by piayda combined to a video installation piece for the show. the dvd is sold out and was procuced on the gallery´s commission instead of a print catalogue. also ledesma and piayda came up with a performance called 'optimus maximus' for the closing of the show. they are recently working on further collaborations.

next to the solo show piayda contributed photographs and videos to group shows at d-52. raum für zeitgenössische kunst, kunsthaus troisdorf, salon atelier, konnektor - forum für künste, kunstperipherie ruhrstadt, galerie143 and kunstmuseum mülheim.
videos had been screened at 10. one minute film & video festival and cineding leipzig.


for the 2013 tinkrather festspiele mülheim piayda developed, produced and installed his first sound installation called 'piano strings to drone for eternity'. further sound works will follow.


also in need to be mentioned is the collaboration for the shop window competition. michaela best and AESTATE (chris huff and sven piayda) ceated prints, videos, sculptures and embroidery works for an optician shop in mülheim.


AESTATE have two big EPs, the one from march: DRONE CHORUS out on pinmusik failed due bad pr, but the work is still available and now for free over at prettyinnoise.bandcamp.com/album/aestate-drone-chorus

the second one entitled SUM FALLS was released on october 21 via the hamburg based label kreislauf. the EP gained great feedback and is supposed to be the start of further common releases.

the present: sven piayda and the studio are recently very busy in producing new works and preparing new shows. a lot is in the pipeline, only a few things are supposed to be talked about.

the future: there will be a group show at kugelpudel, bochum called 'any minute now' featuring next to piayda three further video artists discovering the abilities of the medium concerning tension. more info very soon.

started to be prepared even back in 2012, there will be a piayda solo show at bochumer kulturrat in july and august. the show is supposed to feature photography, video and probably sound and will be entitled 'show/time'. this exhibition will be the biggest show so far.
we hope to see you there.

further shows are in the making and will be announced as soon as possible.

AESTATE are still about to finish their fourth album, we hope to have it released on zany music this year. additionally, the group is recently collaborating with different labels to enable re-releases from older releases as sellafield and record of tides.

last saturday the kunstmuseum mülheim opened the annual exhibiton showing the mülheim based artists. this year the show focusses primarily on photography and new media.
the event was opened by mayor dagmar mühlenfeld and introduced by dr. beate reese. the opening was well attended and the show gained great feedback.

the show features over 120 works by 58 artists, among seven new additions to the annual cadre, sven piayda debuts with a monitor version of 'replica/lightyears' (in the dark video section) and two photographs in the graphic room as shown in 'the promise of absence' show in 2012.

the exhibition will be running until february 2014. also, there are certain events to be announced:

this saturday at 5 pm the kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr will show the annual exhibition of the cities´ artists featuring works by sven piayda. this exhibition will feature current works from locally based artists dealing mainly with photography and new media. the show will feature photographs and video work by sven piayda like a monitor version of 'replica/lightyears' (in the dark video section) and photographs as shown in 'the promise of absence', above you can see a sneak peek from studio showing a still from 'replica', a piece not shown public so far.

until net saturday you will be able to visit the michaela best solo show at optik ziesmann in mülheim an der ruhr. the exhibition features embroidery works from the last years as well as new sculptures. her works are escorted by digitally generated prints and videos by AESTATE.

the exhibition will be closed on saturday, october 12, 12 am with a short finissage and artist talk.

the exhibition is part of the 3rd mülheim shop window competition.
the show accessable at the opening hours of at optik ziesmann, the part exhibited in the shopping windows is illuminated daily until 10 pm. the title 'digitanaloptisch' plays with the three different technologies of the collaborators finding together within the show at this certain place: AESTATE´s digital production, best´s analogue technique and the optician´s profession are merged to this neologism.

michaela best was part of the AESTATEvisual collective and participated in common exhibitions in 2009 and 2010. now this exhibition can be seen as solo show with additions from AESTATE´s visual work. the show will feature different disciplines, from embroidery to sculpture, from print to video.

AESTATE will release their new EP 'SUM FALLS' on the hamburg based label Kreislauf.Organisation on october 21. the group is recently delivering new press pictures as above and the new video for the track 'appregii'.
the track had leaked via youtube, now it is featured on the groups own channel and will be available via the official AESTATE site.
the video features footage which had been originally produced for an alex terz related project, the re-discovered scenes are now re-edited for the 'appregii' video.

feel free to like, share or simply enjoy the video and the music.
a press release is exprected, reviews are welcome.

'appregii' will be the first opening track for the upcoming EP. for the video the track had been cut down to 4.20 min, the EP version appears a lot longer.

last saturday, the atelier kuno lange invited to the 51. tinkrather festspiele at kuno park. the festival shows objects, installations and performances which had been developed within the week before the festival. it also featured sven piayda´s contribition of a sound installation: 'piano strings to drone for eternity' is based upon recordings of a deconstructed piano at kuno langes´s atelier which had been 10 times digitally stretched to long drone sounds. this sound piece is the first exhibition of a work of this discipline.
based upon larger request an unlimited cd edition is now scheduled to be produced. also you will be able to access an mp3 version via /CAMP. also, you can find out more about making of over at the journal. more works of this dicipline are suppused to be produced and exhibited. 'piano strings to drone for eternity' is scheduled to be played in upcoming ehibitions.

even when the festival is very small it recieved great feedback. video documentaries are scheduled to be released soon, sven piayda studio is working on a video documentary which is scheduled to be released in a few weeks.

once again, the atelier kuno lange will invite to 'tinkrather festspiele' in the kuno park on august 31, 2013. the small subcultural festival will feature work by eggxpo artists and others, but dealing with nature, outside in the park. musical performances and outside installations are expected to be presented. all exhibited pieces will be produced with the week before with a short artist-in-residence program.

sven piayda has already announced to contribute a sound work. for the first time a sound only piece will be exhibited as part of his art output. a short statement from the planning conference:
"i want to create a work fitting into the concept of the whole body of work. sound production is familiar to me allthough this piece will not turn out as music or field recording. working with sound seems logical, when you move from photography over to video, you are forced to also focus on another aesthetic channel."
the sound piece will be played during the festival within the park and is believed to be called 'piano strings to drone forever'. more info at the bottom of this article. also check out the microsite.

piayda has been doing some research for the sound piece at the sound factory at lantaarntoren in brugge, belgium to learn about the history of sound artand possibilities in installing and interacting, see picture above.


within this reseach, the studio has filmed and contributed a short video clip of playing round with the interactive sound sculpture entitled 'omni'.





last friday the first artist meeting and inspection of the park gave some info on the set-up and dimensions. you will also find the big brain and the wagon in the park (sven reported about the park and it´s pieces in the journal 2013-04-03 new adventures at kuno park, EGGXPO memories).

yesterday the kunsthaus troisdorf closed the 'AKT' entitled group show dealing with the approach of the naked human body in the fine arts. the show has been running for one month and was a great success according to the press and the website of the kunsthaus.

the kunsthaus troisdorf is a very young institution with young management, further topic oriented group exhibitions are about to be scheduled, even musical performances are part of the program.

it would have been missing: the classic shot of piayda next to his work on the last day of exhibition. trivia note: as the nude body in fine arts and in this exhibition is ususally female, only three male bodies could be seen. piayda´s 'puppe 2' is actually without any indices for telling the sex of the presented body (even if the doll it refers to is actually supposed to be female).


plus: zany music released the secont AESTATE album 'superflat' on 2008-07-07. so the band and the label are celebrating now the 5th anniversary of the release. check aestate-online.com and get a digital version of the album featuring a live excerpt as bonus track!

last friday the clowns & pferde gallery in essen closed the sven piayda solo show "imaginary black forest" paralley to oscar ledesma´s solo show "el seccreto del mal". the shows featured photographs of the last years as well as music videos for AESTATE. ledesma presented new paintings dealing with dark colours and scenes.

the performance as entitleld 'optimus maximus' featured ledesma reading literature snippets escorted by piayda´s guitar tunes from AESTATE tracks. the performance gained great feedback, so ledesma announced further 'OM' performances in the future.

you can visit the open gallery fridays for the last time from 6 to 8 pm. the gallery will celebrate the finissage of teh double show with the ledesma/piayda performance titled as 'optimus maximus'.
it is the first perfomance of the two artists and will combine literature, music and humour.

ledesma and piayda look back on different plans to collaborate and do art shows together, the idea of "I.B.F." was formed back in 2011 on ledesma´s birthday party and is now finally put into action. the original idea was to create a common show, now the two solo shows are presented parelelly, both playing with the familiar and unpleasant feelings.

the photo above was taken by michaela best for promotional issues of the double show and is inspired by michael halsband`s portrait of andy warhol and jean-michel basquiat as boxers, also used to promote common art shows.

the show explored different positions concerning the merging of disciplines like painting and photography. piayda conributed works from the "the promise of absence" show (see picture above) and the "roses (after richter)" video installation. participating artist are mirko s. elfert, merle forchmann, lisa glauer, sven piayda and sabine rolli.

an introduction by art historian sandra könig is expected to featured later via svennet.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of 'drone chorus', the new ep by AESTATE. the digital release is now available from the solingen based label pinmusik on 2013-03-25. the EP release will not be available for free, you can puchase the EP from the PINMUSIK website, click the cover on the left to go there. based in the german ruhr area AESTATE originally started as an electronica project in 2006 and have transformed and expanded their audiovisual universe ever since. their music can be labeled as a postmodern combination of different styles between abstract electronica and heavy post rock. with 'drone chorus' chris huff and sven piayda demonstrate their wide range of abilities in performing and producing, each track appears unique in sound and structure. sven piayda is juror for "platten vor gericht" in the march issue of intro magazine. here he gives statements and rate on current releases from tomahawk, bad religion, a$ap rocky, buke and gase and futher artists.

the intro magazine is one of germany´s most important magazines concerning pop culture, featuring articles on music, fashion, art, movies and games. it is well known for interviews and articles on a high level next to album reviews and "platten vor gericht" (discs on court). here musicians, artists as well as intro employees and readers state on new releases and rate them on a scale from 1 to 10. now piayda was asked to participate. accorting to him this is a long term wish coming true and a big honor to contribute a tiny part to the magazine.


the current issue (#210) features jurors like mickie krause, uk subs, sarah diehl, the datsuns and others. piayda gives an average ration of 5,10.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of 'drone chorus', the new ep by AESTATE. the digital release will be available from the solingen based label pinmusik on 2013-03-25.

for the first time in the group history the ep release will not be available for free, prices will be announced soon. 'drone chorus' features over 60 minutes of new music and will be available as MP3, FLAC and WAV. the new track 'u_turn' will be featured in the upcoming video for the track. further promotional videos for this release are expected.

based in the german ruhr area AESTATE originally started as an electronica project in 2006 and have transformed and expanded their audiovisual universe ever since. their music can be labeled as a postmodern combination of different styles between abstract electronica and heavy post rock. with 'drone chorus' chris huff and sven piayda demonstrate their wide range of abilities in performing and producing, each track appears unique in sound and structure. AESTATE live shows are rare but impressive by merging tracks or turning them into rock versions, usually escorted by multiple video projections filling the gap between ambition and fun, music and art. check www.aestate-online.com for more sound and vision.

next saturday, february 2, the galerie143 will close the 2012/2013 exhibition 'offene galerie'. the show gives an overview on contemporary positions from gallery related artists, some well-known associates as well as new discoveries, mostly photography among different disciplines. the show features 24 artists in general.

above you see a picture from the opening in december showing sven piayda next to wolfgang van triel who presents his photographic series on the location of the loveparade tragedy and its signs of remembering. participating artists like michaela best and martin naber, as well as van triel and piayda are expected to be around during the closing event.
[update: sven piayda has cancelled his participation caused by issues concerning health.]

the closing is part of the rheinische straße rundgang #16 "go west". therefore the gallery will open at 2 pm, artists and guests for the last day of showing are expected at 5 pm. the show will close around 7 pm.

penrose delta, the AESTATE side project featuring huff, piayda and guest musician rockenfield (as well as further musicians), made a big impression by releasing the debut album "space of entire retreat" in spring 2012. even without any ambitions or future plans, the release became a big success and the group decided to go on. recently, the core of AESTATE is doing the programmings and arrangements and plan the set-up of the full album. for the meantime, the group is about to release re-edited versions of older tunes.

the collection from 2007 to 2008 recordings is supposed to be entitled "precious memories and a few old tunes" and will probably released in 2013 on digital kunstrasen again. videos are about to be produced, again three videos escorting the album are expected.
listening to the older songs you will experience the group as quite heavy and avoiding any piano sounds. this will not be the direction for the new recordings, huff confirmed.

next the the new penrose delta album, AESTATE are preparing the next EP escorted by videos and live dates, more to be announced within the next weeks.

first of all: happy new year to all of you. this year woman artist michaela best as well as musician, producer, label mate and long time collaborator with AESTATE sorin paun from bucharest, romania tell - next to sven piayda - their favourite and most played albums of the year 2012. this year, the list of five have been expanded - or shorted.
as always this will give some background on inspiration and some pre-echos of the upcoming: michaela best and sven piayda are recently working on common projects. sorin paun is well known for his projects randomform and datacrashrobot. his remixes for AESTATE have become classics, further collaborations are supposed to follow.
