2003-12-15 shooting gift cover

you might remember 2002: after recording alec smith´s part for "loved by you" the guys returned to studio to record "grüne haare". these songs are performed by alec and sven only without any electronica. the songs were written by alec, exept the "grüne haare" lyrics by dirk wienecke which had been inspired by a painting by phoenix. you can find out more over at o-livro.de. the downloads feature three of four tracks complete tracks from the 2002 recording. we hope you enjoy. if you want to have a closer look on credits and on downloads click here.

ja wirklich, es gibt ein neues projekt von sven und jay. es handelt sich um eine cd mit ruhiger musik "nur aus selbstgezüchteten samples", die hundert prozent sr-kompatibel ist (und das von einem nicht-rollenspieler! *gg*)
diese "electroplatte" ist maßgeblich von boards of canada inspiriert und wird frühestens im dezember erscheinen (das datum steht aber noch nicht fest, die platte wird noch produziert.)
nach gitarren- und schlagzeugsolos befragt, antwortet ein gut gelauntes sven: "der witz ist ja, daß die geräusche völlig in den hintergrund geraten und man nicht genau weiß wo sie herkommen!" eure redakteuse sagt nach ersten kostproben: klingt gut, ein bißchen stör-rauschig und ist ganz sicher kompatibel. näheres auf der chill-out-seite svenpiayda.com/recordoftides

robert palmer passed away caused of a heart attack. sven has a short message: "i know it might be not cool to listen to robert palmer´s music, but in case of quality i guess i do not care. one of today´s most talented musicans passed away, i would have expected his career to be much longer. if you have never listened to the "honey" album, you have definitely missed one of only a few really good albums. i do not mean many good songs, i mean a brilliant album. i feel very shocked, the non-rockstar died too soon. for me it it is like a deja vu, i remeber layne staley and my confessions of disorientation last year. there would have been so much more to expect..."

time flies (didn´t we write this even two years ago??? anyway) and today is a day to realize that it has been exactly four years ago when portrait, sven´s outstanding debut, was released. sven comments: "i am really happy when i look back, listening to portrait. i feel like i were in the past again and on the other side i wonder how good it sounds even today. i know there is much left to do, the record of tides debut, the work on the dissident(en) club debut and a little later a follow up album to diptych. portrait still is the base for my music works."

after some pausing and disorientation SHAVED SPACE MONKEY launches the new ssm site. it features sound and vision of the upcoming album "draft 3.0 | to drift for eternity". the album will contain known material which has been reproduced and also new tracks with the same style. allthough there are only ten tracks on the album it runs exactly 60 minutes. oblegatoric for fans and good introduction for future fans.

as you have read all articles in the svennet news section over the last weeks, you will know about the good critics and the hype around the dissident(en) club concert. the album is not released yet and, well, you must stay patient. svennet members have a great advantage: selected members will recieve the original live recording

Dearest readers,
I´ve been watching the latetest Dissident(en) Club performance and I must admit right now I´ve finally managed to get myself under control again. What a day! And what a performance it was! Incredible. Mastermind and Leadsinger Herpes Gugushi wasn´t that naked like in his 2001 performance with Tragkraft, but nevertheless he succeded in the crowd cry out for more. And dancing he did. even the seemingly shy Holy came out of the darkness of his computer and danced the night away. Not to forget Sven Christian Piayda who forced his guitar to where no guitar has gone before...

Anyway, there was an accoustic set, a glockenspiel, a bowl and many other things formely known as kitchen utensils had to play their part in a performance which cannot be compared with anything else I´ve ever seen! What is happening next? I just read that the long expected album is coming out in november, as Sven Christian Piayda is forced to leave the studio with two crying people in it behind to do greater work at the university. But he promised to be back with his fellows as soon as possible to present their fans a very special pre-x-mas album. Rumours are spread that the special edition of their debut might eventually contain a live version of one of the songs, performed on the school´s out festival.
As I do not like no rumours I contacted Sven for sure information. "We don´t know at that time. We are in discussion which song it will be or if we just skip that idea for a better one. Maybe it´ll be a surprise even for all of us how things work out." Well, not the answer I quite expected but will not leave this question unanswered. I also spoke with some of the fans, so here are some extracts from what they said before, while and after the concert: "I can´t wait to finally see them again!" "Sven hasn´t been on stage for so long, I´m curious how he developed." "Herpes is rippin´of his clothes..." "Sven didn´t loose his Brian May playing but added some, I can´t remember the name..." Anyway... ;-)

Some of the fans said that there where some differences in the volume and the band admitted that the engineers had some difficulties with the controls during the concert. Nevertheless I didn´t hear a word of complain and me, for myself, can only say that they did a great job. If you were there you might have also seen the very shy but talented female artist Phoenix who took photos of the band. I asked her for a short statement and she answered with a smile spreading over her whole face: "They are great." Excactly my words and I leave it with this. first of all - a short message by sven: "i would like to thank every person who supported us, for your applause, your good advices and your time and patience. and of course a big thank you to phoenix for taking pictures and my roadie awo, and everyone else around for a very special evening. playing live means always great affort to me, but because of you it was real fun."

herpes and sven have been in studio again to mix the first songs and to record final percussion tracks. the finished songs are "komm mit (free)" and "allergie" and a song with a so far unknown title. putting this debut into action seems to be a greater enterprise than expected, according to herpes, the album will not be released before september.- thats a long time for exitement.

herpes and sven have been in studio again to record all bass line and to finish the recording of the disident(en) club debut.
sven reports: "well, just play some bass. i´m not the born pass player and i tell you this is hard work. allthough you know what you want it to sound like you ask yourself why your fingers do not abey. anyway, we are happy with the result and the bass line adds a deeper sound layer and it becomes more groovy. we´ll see. by the way, i have produced a song on wednesday called "two floors" i hope it will fit to the album. we just have to mix it and find an adequate package, that´s all. i´m optimistic."

sven reports: "this time we finished all guitar tracks, not very much. i also played glockenspiel for one track and we did some indie percussion thing together for "suomi". oh yes, i have just forgot, there was also a song calld "free", a quite heavy rock song (in herpes terms) this one could also be quite nice. i´m looking forward to hear the final mixes, up to now it is very difficult to tell how it sounds. but it will be done soon, just some bass guitar next week and there you have it."

finally SHAVED SPACE MONKEY releases his follow up album THE RETURN OF, again produced by sven. the album features 16 wonderful arranged tracks following the ssm concept of classical tunes combined with electronic beats.

the new ssm site features sound and vision of two new tracks: "quo vadis" and "a house in the woods". but there is more: every new copy of "READY TO GO" and "THE RETURN OF" contains passwords by which you can enter the SSM CLUB and download exclusive sounds for free. that´s a deal, isn´t it?

they have been in studio again to continue recording herpes new album.
sven reports: "this time we could only work on two tracks, the arrangements on "eis sein" are very complex and we had to find a way find an appropriate way to bring guitars in. so, this track will have four guitar tracks. the other song we recorded was called "alles" and we only had beats because the computer deleted the original files, so i just played one rhythm guitar. holy came up with the idea of a spanish guitar and we just put it in. we wanted to finish it but we had no bass line, no sequencer or bass guitar. i just tuned the lower e-string of the acustic guitar down to a. the sound was interesting.
last weeks session was also very good. on one song we wanted to play a slide part. because i had no bottleneck with me we tried to have the same result with spoons but it did not work, big round batteries did better. -this is heavily independent."

as you might already know, ssm will release the second album entitled "the return of" on 2003-06-05. (this release date will hopefully not delayed). the album will feature 16 tracks which are less funky than the debut. the "sparkling star remix" will not be featured on the album but it can be downloaded in the SSM CLUB by everyone who owns an ssm album, so take your chance. other tracks will follow (there is much more material like remixes and strange stuff that will be downloadable soon.)
the new site offers previews of ssm tracks, two from the debut and two from the next album. the are presented in "sound and vision", it is worth a look.

wow, that was quick! only six month after the outstandig debut by ssm the follow up album "the return of shaved space monkey" is planned to be released. however, the album features 16 tracks (full length unknown yet) an will sound more serious in comparison to the debut. sven has produced and added guitars (just like last time) and he is very happy with the result: "i guess we wanted to find out if we can go on this way, and yes, we can. i don´t know what´s next, maybe it is time to look for new borders and challanges, i don´t know if we need a third ssm album, anyway, we´ll see, never say never."

the video "mine" was directed by awo, who started to work on this piece one year ago, but the production took longer than expected. the video features beside sven´s pulse chasing song scenes from the anime production "neon genesis evangelion".

2003-03-13 "buried in the past" by sven from 2000 soon available for members

the new memberarea is the best one we ever had and it features unreleased sounds and offers a cool community.
a few months ago sven talked about releasing a cd with recordings from 1995 to 2000 (the pre-portrait years, if you want to call them so), which should have been a full album of older songs. but, as you might know, sven does not like to look back, he is recently planing a new studio album and the collected older sounds will going to be released on cd. but the new memberarea will make it possible to offer these sounds to svennet members i.e. people who have already bought a sven release.

in about one or two months the sven song "buried in the past" from a demo recording session for "diptych" will be downloadable for members - absolutly free.
