after some days off, sven spent two days in studio to produce the SHAVED SPACE MONKEY album. as far as we know, it is real fun: very funky, retro and classical. to find out more, vistit the new ssm site.

Pop culture and religion (or at least spirituality) often has a profound influence on our lives. Much of this is the media's fault - religious iconography shows up EVERYWHERE in pop culture, from the 700 Club to Madonna's silver crosses in the 80's, to rappers and rock bands thanking God for their Grammies. Many of us grew up with these images being shoved in our faces, and whether we want them to or not, these images pervade our memories (and our art) throughout our existence. Our artists this issue give us a prime example of how the things we are exposed to in our youth influence us as people and as artists. alec and sven have recorded four (!) songs last sunday, all with german lyrics. the songs will be mixed today and the cd may appear in a few weeks.
line up:
alec: vocals, guitar, baas
sven: guitars, bass, cachon
we hope to have more infos on the new songs soon.

by the way, above you see a painting called "driven" by nina phoenix flintrop which might have been the inspiration for dirk wienecke to write the lyrics for "grüne haare"...

alec and sven are playing together since 1995, many tapes were produced, always humming, always with an unhappy alec. in februrary 1999, short before the programming session for portrait started, alec and sven were recording a cold wind blows and queen´s breakthru. anyway last recordings have not been very satisfying.

the upcomming session is scheduled for 2002-06-23 and it is the first time they return to moppelstudioz together after recording loved by you for diptych. expexted is an ep with four songs written and performed by alec smith, featuring sven on guitar, bass and perc. (alec doesn´t like the electro stuff for his songs, so i might remain very organic.)

two and a half years after portrait the follow up album is out, finally! diptch combines rock, trip hop industrial and timeless pop to a dynamic mixture of modern ways to use guitars.
"i´m very nervous these days, what we reached with portrait was so great and perfect, i´m afraid the new result might not be good enough. i have explored some new directions, i just hope that the listeners are willing to follow into these new ideas", sven says.

after launching version 3.0 you may have missed our radio. but it is higher develloped now and it features exclusively the first sounds of the forthcoming album DIPTYH. the song you hear is called "last departure" and it is the final track of the album. what do you think???

as many of you already know, the new album will be entitled diptych, the working title cibachrome will not be used anymore. the album is still scheduled for 2002-03-25, but nobody knows if it will work this time :-)

anyway, above you see pav2´s women artist phoenix working on sven´s cover ideas - a hard job isn´t it???
