SP: Hallo Katharina,
schön, dass ich dabei sein darf.
KG: Ja, gerne. Und du bist Musiker und du hast in vielen verschiedenen
Combos gespielt, wo du sämtliche Aufnahmen gesammelt hast. Ist das richtig?
SP: Ja, mehr oder weniger. Wie alle Musiker habe ich diverse Konstellationen
durch und bin am Ende – oder eigentlich auch schon von Anfang an – dabei
geblieben, meinen eigenen Backkatalog gut zu verwalten. Und der liegt
jetzt in der Form von Zany Music vor und das mache ich seit 1999. Das
heißt, es sind schlanke 25 Jahre, die ich das Ganze jetzt schon so betreibe,
wo ich meine eigene Musik, Musik, die ich mit Freunden mache, zum Teil
auch Musik, die Freunde auch alleine machen, in einem kleinen Teil zur
Verfügung stelle. Und aus dem Fundus dessen, was sich über 25 Jahre angesammelt
hat und was auch weiterhin wächst, würde ich ganz gerne was spielen in
der Sendung.
KG: Ja, gerne. Du hast auch hier jetzt schon ein paar Kostproben
mitgebracht. Unter anderem wäre da eine deiner Bands. Wie heißt die?
SP: Okay, dann fangen wir vielleicht an mit dem Smash-Hit des letzten
Albums. Und zwar ist das Record of Tides und 'Summer Dusk'. Vielleicht
erzähle ich kurz was dazu, der – wie viele Tracks von Record Of Tides
– eigentlich komplett auf Samples basiert. Da ist ein bisschen MIDI drin,
aber auch sehr viel Microsampling, was irgendwie zusammengebastelt ist.
Und es lohnt sich durchaus, ein bisschen näher ans Radio zu rücken und
mal auf die ganz vielen kleinen Details zu hören, die da eingebacken sind.

KG: Record Of Tides ist ein Projekt von Sven, der jetzt gerade
neben mir sitzt und der unter anderem auch Zany Hour einmal im
Monat bei uns sendet – beziehungsweise alle vier Wochen, und am 29.10.
geht es los. Du machst nicht nur Radio, sondern du bist auch teilweise
Teil des Electric Cafés hier im Makroskop.
SP: Das ist richtig. Und das Electric Café ist tatsächlich nichts,
was auf meinem Mist gewachsen ist, sondern das ist eigentlich ein Zusammenschluss,
ein Verbund von Elektromusikern, der – soweit ich weiß – aus Oberhausen
hergezogen ist, ursprünglich sich in Eisenheim, in diesem sehr beschaulichen
Stadtteil Oberhausens, getroffen hat, um da gemeinsam elektronische Musik
zu zelebrieren und live aufzuführen vor – ich sag mal – vor fachkundigem
Publikum, also alles Leute, die auch gerne live gespielt haben. Und man
hat sich abgewechselt und das Ganze ist hier ins Makroskop gezogen und
findet – soweit ich weiß – einmal im Quartal statt. Aber es wird eigentlich
immer angekündigt. Und das Schöne beim Electric Café ist, dass es zwar
als Jam angekündigt ist, was tatsächlich kein echter Jam ist, sondern
es gibt Slots für interessierte Musiker, die halt performen möchten. Und
man muss sagen, das ist eine Gruppe, die sehr offen ist, sehr interessiert
an allem, was da kommt. Und wer interessiert ist an elektronischer Musik
und wer interessiert ist an allem, was etwas abseitig des Mainstreams
stattfindet, der kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten. Und es gibt hier sehr
unterschiedliche Dinge, die man sich hier geben kann. Und ich lade an
dieser Stelle einfach mal Elektromusiker ein, im Zuge des Electric Cafés
zu performen, aber auch Musikinteressierte, sich das Ganze einfach mal
anzuhören. Das sind immer sehr lohnende Abende.
KG: Und du warst da auch schon mal Teil und deswegen haben wir
auch nochmal einen Song von Record Of Tides: 'Oneohsix Forever featuring
Primal Scapes'.

SP: Auch mit diesem Song möchten wir euch nochmal einladen zur
Zany Hour, der Sendung, die ich einmal im Monat mache – natürlich zusammen
mit den Wiederholungen, die am darauffolgenden Tag und darauffolgenden
Samstag zu hören sein werden. In der Sendung möchte ich, wie schon angedeutet,
Songs aus dem Backkatalog spielen und Tracks aus dem Backkatalog spielen.
Meine Stimme wird es dabei eigentlich nicht zu hören geben – jedenfalls
nicht in gesprochener Form, sondern höchstens in gesungener Form. Ob das
gut geht oder nicht, müsst ihr dann selber mit euch ausmachen. Und das
ist das, was stattfindet. Wir gucken mal, wie sich das Ganze entwickelt.
Ich überlege mal, ob ich das Format noch umbaue oder ausweite. Erstmal
ist es wichtig, dass wir einen brauchbaren Container haben, mit dem wir
spielen können, und gucken dann, was wir damit machen. Dann würde ich
den letzten Song noch anmoderieren, mit dem ich mich dann auch verabschiede
und hoffe, wir hören uns am 29. Oktober in der Zany Hour wieder.

SP: Hello Katharina, I'm glad to be part of this.
KG: Yes, of course. You're a musician and you've played in many
different combos, where you've collected all the recordings. Is that right?
SP: Yes, more or less. Like all musicians, I've been through various
constellations. And in the end-or actually from the very beginning-I stuck
with managing my own back catalog well. That now exists in the form of
Zany Music, and I've been doing that since 1999. So it's been a lean 25
years that I've been running this, offering my own music, music I make
with friends, and partly also music that friends make on their own, in
a small part. And from the collection of what has accumulated over 25
years-and continues to grow-I'd like to play something on the show.
KG: Yes, of course. You've already brought a few samples with
you. Among them is one of your bands. What's it called?
SP: Okay, then let's maybe start with the smash hit from the latest
album. It's Record of Tides and the track 'Summer Dusk'. Maybe I'll briefly
say something about it: like many tracks from Record Of Tides, it's almost
entirely based on samples. There's a bit of MIDI in there, but also a
lot of micro-sampling, which is pieced together. It's definitely worth
getting a bit closer to the radio and listening to all the tiny details
baked into it.

KG: Record Of Tides is a project by Sven, who is sitting next
to me right now and who also hosts Zany Hour once a month on our
station-every four weeks, starting on October 29. You don't just do radio,
you're also part of the Electric Café here at Makroskop.
SP: That's right. And Electric Café is actually not something
I started. It's a collective of electronic musicians who, as far as I
know, moved here from Oberhausen. Originally, they met in Eisenheim, a
very quaint district of Oberhausen, to celebrate and perform electronic
music live-mostly in front of a knowledgeable audience, meaning people
who also liked to play live. They took turns performing, and the whole
thing moved here to Makroskop and, as far as I know, takes place once
a quarter. But it's always announced. What's nice about Electric Café
is that although it's announced as a jam, it's not a real jam session.
There are slots for interested musicians who want to perform. And I have
to say, it's a very open group, very curious about everything that comes
along. So if you're interested in electronic music and in everything that
happens off the mainstream path, you'll definitely get your money's worth
here. There's a wide variety of things to experience. And I'd like to
take this opportunity to invite electronic musicians to perform as part
of Electric Café, and also invite music lovers to come and check it out.
These are always very rewarding evenings.
KG: And you've already been part of it, which is why we have another
