‘spirit with thorn’ at clowns & pferde in essen video documents the screening of the well-known piece as large high definition screening in february 2021.in the context of the pandemic ‘spirit with thorn’ predicts a dark future: as the boy with thorn is the perfect allegory of being trapped with a certain constitution, he has not changed his pose ever since. also mars rover spirit did not manage to get off it´s trap again and still remains in the place it could not leave. the timing for the return of ‘spirit with thorn’ could not be better: nasa´s new mars rover ‘perseverance’ has landed on mars exploring the planet to search for evidence of life in the past. the screening of ‘spirit with thorn’ on march 25 is a week after the new mission´s landing, hopefully not predicting the future of ‘perseverance’ but reminding of the limitations even in advanced technology.

'let´s buy it / kunst und einkauf' curated by dr. christine vogt at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen was the first exhibition of sven piayda´s 2016 video piece 'a sudden gust of wind'. it was produced on request for the big museum group show and is believed to be part of the museum´s collection now. the video documents some views of the ongoing work during press conference, opening and on it´s last day of exhibition.

the video documents the awarding of peter eisold and sven piayda recieving the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft 2016. it features snippets from laudatio speeches by frank niehusmann and dr christine vogt as well as statements by eisold, piayda and major ulrich scholten. the video documentary has been produced by fokus mediaproduktion.

'jahresaustellung mülheimer künstlerinnen und künstler (2013)' at kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr featured cgi photographs 'shedhead' and 'ring' as well as the 'replica/lightyears' video installation by sven piayda. the video documents some views of the work on the day after closing the exhibition.

the "tinkrather festspiele" at atelier and kuno lange and kuno park featured the first sound work in an art context produced by sven piayda. it was produced within the week before the festival at and for this special place. the video documents some views of the festival night, showing works by further participating artists escorted by the drone sounds of piayda´s sound installation.

"paintografie" curated by sabine rolli at d-52. raum für zeitgenössische kunst, düsseldorf feature photographs from "the promise of absence" as well as the "roses (after richter)" video installation. the video documents some views of the works on the last day of exhibition.

"aus dem leben der tische" curated by dr. ellen markgraf at museum abtei liesborn in wadersloh was the first great exhibition of sven piayda´s 2009 video piece 'summer break 2004'. the video documents some views of the ongoing work on it´s first day of exhibition.

video documentary of the solo exhibition by media artist sven piayda the promise of absence at galerie143 (simone czech) in dortmund, germany in 2012. the video gives a short overview on the exhibition. an alternative version has also been produced and will be screened in the future.

frisch zubereitet at the ludwig galerie schloss oberhausen was the second great exhibition of piayda´s well known video piece roses (after richter). the work gained great response by audience and critics, based upon it´s unique concept and the great way of presentation of the museum. the video documents some views on the ongoing work on it´s last day of exhibition.

in 2011 sven piayda assembled for the first time at the EGGXPO, the annual art show at atelier kuno lange featuring well known local artists. the documentary was filmed and directed by video artist jochen schweizer and was re-edited afterwards. the video gives some impressions on some photographs and the video work "the gates" as shown in the exhibition. additionally, the view also captures the beatiful surrounding of the atelier, its park and sculptures.

the documentary shows the making of the panamera tableau. originally planned as a video installation, this making of illustrates the setting up of the scene, the first scenes of the unfinished video work, drifting into exploring the surface of the car and finally making shots to be composed afterwards which lead to the well-known photograph tableau from 2010. in 2014 the video material was finally edited as finished video piece.



above you can watch the studio version which contains the material for the 'panamera' video installation from 2014. the original video piece is available in pal and hd. the two minute loop is exactly ten seconds shorter than the fullscreen studio version and features differently cut material.

sven piayda´s SETS, STILLS, STORIES AND STRUCTURES solo show at stoffwechsel, essen, focused on his video installtions and pointed out the connection of video and photography. this documentary comes up with some scenes from the installations and some impressions of screening..

sichtwerk02 is (or was) the annual public showing of works by art and design students of the university of essen. in 2001 sven piayda participated for the first time showing the four piece composition "the devine master plan", an early student´s piece which is no longer listed in the catalogues. The documentary is based upon analogue photographs animated afterwards to let you wander through the full exhibition.

AESTATE´s second and "upgraded" version of the first AESTATEvisual show, coming up with more works and as usually: more complex. this v2.0 fixed the image of a digital enfant terrible in the art scene, still showing cgi prints, video installation and embroidery. the group had never been so succesful as visual artists before, there is more to come.
