without any announcement in advance and definitely surprising zany music releases
‘b-sides’, a new compilation album of sven songs from 1999 to 2009 which have
not been considered as singles but have appeared on the original albums. sven
‘b-sides’ is released via zany music and distributed via bandcamp completing ‘the
singles’.
as you may have read in the journal sven piayda had been contacted
by a fan of his early solo albums asking for digital versions as the compact disc
do not play (properly) anymore. after delivering new discs with the original albums
options for digital releases have been discussed.
the six solo albums
are not going to be re-released digitally as the albums are bound to their time,
partly analogue artwork production methods, their medium (concerning length and
hidden tracks) and their commitments with participating musicians. by picking
two further songs from each album (one song as 2021 remix) a great compilation
album of over an hour length will be available. this offers the opportunity to
bring back more great tracks, to do remasters and offer the epic debut opening
song ‘dirt’ in a version which was always supposed to be: as sven has never been
happy with the static and powerless drum programming, scott rockenfeld´s drums
have been added to the complex piece next to a string arrangement. the remix also
features a new outro picking up the guitar orchestration of the intro but performed
on acoustic guitars. the newly added guitar arrangement is actually sampled from
recordings done in 1998 (even before working on ‘portrait’) during recording sessions
with alec smith at a friend´s studio. (unfortunately detailed credits cannot be
reconstructed.)
fun fact: while doing follow-ups to the debut album ‘portrait’
piayda developed the idea to have the album number in the title while the cover
was supposed to be based on a (self-)portrait in an altering colour. in the middle
of the 00´s piayda announced that he was planning to do seven solo albums. as
‘portrait’ is black and white, the following albums ‘diptych’, ‘trinity’ and ‘euphoria’
form primary colours while secondary colours are represented by ‘pentagroove’
and ‘the senary process’. the ‘the singles’ compilation album therefor has an
orange cover while the word ‘singles’ is formed by seven letters. in tradition
of (usually profit-driven re-release compilations) the artwork uses a cover based
upon a photograph taken while working on the artwork for the final album. ‘b-sides’
appears once againg in the tradition of numbers and colours: as the debut album
is black and white, ‘b-sides’ appears obviously grey using a photograph by thomas
pläßer taken in 2008 during a live gig with factor-4 in dortmund. the capital
letter ‘B’ also looks like number 8 (it could also be seen as infinity sign),
so this compilation might definitely the last one.

the digital only double single jan-dirk platek x record of tides ‘expotential
/ frequentism’ will not be on label and out january 14, 2022, available on

deezer and bandcamp. it will be available as pre-order via bamdcamp on boxing
day, december 26, 2021. platek and piayda already collaborated for the ‘concrete

Video- und Fotokünstler [Sven Piayda] lebt seine Kunst in verschiedensten Projekten
und mit unterschiedlichsten Ansätzen aus. Neben Record Of Tides ist er ebenfalls
der Kopf hinter dem Musikprojekt AESTATE. Für die neue Record Of Tides Single
hat er sich mit Jan-Dirk Platek zusammengefunden. Solomusiker Platek ist vielleicht
den ein oder anderen PiN-Leser:innen von seinem Projekt We Deserve This bekannt.
Zusammen veröffentlichen die beiden Künstler nun eine 2-Track Single (Expotential
/ Frequentism), die am 14.01.2022 auf allen gängigen Streaming- und Downloadportalen
erscheinen wird.
Die Nummer besticht durch relativ ruhige Ambient-Flächen
die scheinbar kurz vor dem Ausbruch immer wieder eingefangen werden. Nach dreieinhalb
Minuten entlädt sich die aufgebaute Spannung in einem wahren Klangrausch, welcher
überraschenderweise auf jegliche Beats verzichtet. Ein spannendes Projekt, welches
man jedem Fan elektronischer und meditativer Instrumentals empfehlen kann.

‘expotential’ is just melancholic in the beginning and becomes more brutal
and powerful than a slayer song towards the end. it sounds unique, even after
the umpteenth listen.

was quite different from what i´d usually would do. however, it is all derived
from jan´s piano lines. stretching, folding and checking where it would go and
there you are.

january 29, 2021 michael schreiber hosted and broadcasted the first episode of
‘paul´s quiz’ offering some entertainment in winter lockdown of 20/21. yesterday
michael schreiber finally returned with the second episode of the ‘paul´s quiz’
music quiz show. within the show concept he was live broadcasting playing real-time
stretched (while shifting slowly to original tempo) versions of well known pop
songs. sven has been a successful candidate again, unfortunately many viewers
had not logged in to place their guesses. piayda and schreiber developed the music
quiz show concept while working with the software on music productions and being
bored of limited spare time options. schreiber has already announced a third episode
for spring 2022.

friday, december 3, 2021 at 8 pm michael schreiber and sven piayda added the next
chapter to their collaborative euclid series. their ‘vivid euclids’ performance
was streamed live via youtube from primals studios and is still available as recording.
the set featured live versions of tracks from the euclid series as well as older
and unreleased tracks.
on january 1, 2021 primal scapes and record of
tides released their collaborative album ‘revenant euclids’ without any announcement
in advance via zany music and distributed via bandcamp. the album features ten
tracks mostly based upon randomized euclidian pattern. the collaborative album
was produced in november and december 2020. following their highly appreciated
collaborative album, primal scapes x record of tides released the appendix ep
‘sweven euclids’ on march 1, 2021 using similar production methods without creating
any beats within their ambient pieces. the collaborative ep was produced in january
and february 2021. ‘vivid euclids’ is also supposed to be released within the
next weeks.
michael schreiber summerized the performance:

fright before it starts, direct feedback in the faces of the audience, the music
you can feel all the way to your stomach and the endorphins in the last bars when
the tension drops.... i admit: i miss it. the last livestream together with sven
was a good substitute, everything was there except the direct feedback from the
audience. almost all of the drums and percussion were actually generated live
by euclid sequencer, the concept is as simple as it is interesting, because a
completely different version really does emerge spontaneously with every run-through.

of tides´s ‘battery ep’ was released on september 3 and differs a lot from previous
recordings as it abandons post hip hop to focus on drill’n’bass influenced idm.
the ep also features the track ‘concrete walls of gruga’ which is already well-known
as remix by we deserve this. now zany music drops a collection of remixes by prominent
artists exploring the possibilities of the track while expanding it into numerous
genres.
‘concrete walls of gruga’ has been reworked by kratzwerk, we deserve
this, konvlikt, wesenberg, primal scapes and record of tides.
the origin
of this production traces back to an anticipated collaboration of kratzwerk and
record of tides. guido richter a.k.a. kratzwerk asked for stems of the track and
a little later further artists joined the project while using the same stems to
adapt the track into their style. fun fact: sven piayda plays guitar on the primal
scapes remix on behalf of michael schreiber. it was recorded during (yet unfinished)
sessions for a new primal scapes album. the track also features chris huff on
bass.
