we are looking back on a great year of exhibitions and releases. this year had been quite limited in action and output, nevertheless enough to fill the year. especially the end of the was coined by the great solo show ‘if and only if’ at SG1 kunstraum in dusiburg and also by the group show at kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen, which is still on display. we are happy to look back on collaborative work with nuremberg based artist karla köhler and the shows taking place featuring the collaborative work. also we are happy to have contributed to a show at the horsebridge arts centre in whitsable, uk, and to the ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen. additionally video works had been screened at different film festivals. check also the exhibitions section.

the studio is always busy in producing and negotiating exhibition projects. as usually there is a lot in the pipepeline, but nothing is confirmed recently.




in 2019 piayda had been busy with record of tides by releasing ‘collected riffing works’ on zany music, performing great (av) live sets at galerie der disziplinen in hamm, szeniale in gelsenkirchen and werdener wiesn while also putting out live bootlegs documenting the shows.

record of tides is believed to play audio visual live in early 2020, also a new album is expected to be released via kreislauf.org. also there are rumours on a collaboration with visual artist matthias danberg again.



the sven piayda solo show ‘if and only if’ at SG1 kunstraum duisburg ended yesterday with a great closing featuring the opportunity to get some signed postcards. as you can see above, sven piayda has signed some well chosen cards. see more pictures documenting the show, its opening, time on display and closing over at the exhibitions section.

'collected riffing works' is a collection of ten tracks which have been produced over the period of the past ten years which have been waiting to be released finally. as the title already mentions, the album contains mainly guitar riffing based music focussing on the rock music influences of record of tides. this release is actually no change in style, sven is recently working on electronic and guitar based music.

some heavy guitar sounds have also apperad already in the 2019 live performances, actually none of them had been taken from 'collected riffing works'. however, record of tides may appear live in january 2020 again. more soon.

the electric café open air festival at werdener wiesn was not recorded unfortunately, the bootleg is reconstructed by using parts of the used files combined with ambience. it actually features the tracks performed plus an alternate ending, it does not cover all the live sounds which have actually been played. therefore the bootleg is called ‘reconstructed & extended’.

unfortunately the show at szeniale has not been recorded, it is believed to have been very similar to the performance in hamm.

additionally zany music still offers the performance in eisenheim for electric café in 2018. so zany music offers three quite different live performances featuring microphone, line or reconstructed sound.

‘endurance’ has been programmed, recorded and produced in summer 2017 when piayda returned home from hospital after having a surgery to fix a pilon fracture (check the journal: 2017-10-03 the man who fell to earth (and broke a leg) | entry by sven) and using the time for a new album. the album features 20 tracks and is mostly inspired by aphex twin, boards of canada (in the pre-warp era) and guitar work by queen and seefeel. it is supposed to be the best work of record of tides so far, accorting to kreislauf.org label boss andreas buttweiler.

as ‘endurance’ features about 108 minutes of music it is difficult to put it on a physical release. zany music has dropped the plans for a physical release.

back in 2015 sven piayda was asked to do an online exhibition at gallerie tellerand, a gelsenkirchen based online only gallery project. after being very sceptical at first, the studio developed a show dealing with the issues of digital presentation and reduced dimensions presented in disciplines like photography, cgi, video and sound.
the show was launched on november 1st 2015 and was extended to be shown until january 2016, featuring introduction text and conversation with gallerist michael em walter. the digital show vanished from the web and after the following show the gallery quit business. now, the gallery has updated the achieves and ‘#howdeepisyourlove’ has returned to the digital screen, you experience the virtual only show as it was drafted and presented back in 2015, see links below.
also: ‘four seasons after arcimboldo’ have been part oft he show, they are now on display as postcard versions at galerie gublia in essen.

once again, on december 21 (actually the shortest day in the year), many cinemas and organizations celebrate the long darkness on the shortest day with short film festivals. the LISALUNA shortfilm festival is curated by christina böckler, luise hoyer and elisabeth höller. it will take place in the basement of the st. joseph church at dellplatz in duisburg. the festival will show sven piayda´s ‘portrait of violetta’ as large screening. you are welcome to join the small festival, but it is believed to be small and cold (be prepared).

last year sven piayda received the lisaluna 2018 award for ‘never is a long time’. above you see christina böckler next to luise hoyer (left) and piayda during the ceremony of the festival. during the ceremony, piayda received the trophy, gave some info on the movie and watched the second screening due winning. you can see more pictures in the exhibitions section.



sven piayda´s ‘portrait of violetta’ has been screened at galerie mühlfeld+stohrer during 2018 vkunst frankfurt video art festival ‘mein neues ich’ (my new me) curated by christoph von löw and andreas greulich, you can download the catalogue over here, have a look at the updated exhibitions section for more stills and installation views.

recently we are happy to have two shows on display featuring work by sven piayda. the solo exhibition ‘if and only if’ at SG1 duisburg is open mondays only an will be on until december 23. the on-going group show at kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen is featuring works by artists from or connected to gelsenkirchen. it features the video piece ‘heliodorus’, an endless video loop exploring a golden relief. the piece had been produced over the last months in a quite long production period using up-to-date hardware for complex polygone figures. the show will be on display until februrary 2, 2020. the kustmuseum gelsenkirchen opens every day except on mondays. we would like to inform about the events escorting the shows.

the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen opened the 'jahresschau gelsenkirchener künstlerinnen und künstler'. we are happy to announce the museum is screening 'heliodorus' within the annual group show of artists living in or being connected to gelsenkirchen. it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of 'collected riffing works', the fifth full length album by record of tides. the album is quite surprisingly released once again by zany music and and is distributed by achive.org as digital version only. the album surprised in style, sound and composition, also there have been no promotion in advance which is quite unusual for zany music.

'collected riffing works' is a collection of ten tracks which have been produced over the period of the past ten years which have been waiting to be released finally. as the title already mentions, the album contains mainly guitar riffing based music focussing on the rock music influences of record of tides. this release is actually no change in style, sven is recently working on electronic and guitar based music.

some heavy guitar sounds have also apperad already in the 2019 live performances, actually none of them had been taken from 'collected riffing works'. however, record of tides may appear live in january 2020 again. more soon.

the electric café open air festival at werdener wiesn was not recorded unfortunately, the bootleg is reconstructed by using parts of the used files combined with ambience. it actually features the tracks performed plus an alternate ending, it does not cover all the live sounds which have actually been played. therefore the bootleg is called ‘reconstructed & extended’.

unfortunately the show at szeniale has not been recorded, it is believed to have been very similar to the performance in hamm.

additionally zany music still offers the performance in eisenheim for electric café in 2018. so zany music offers three quite different live performances featuring microphone, line or reconstructed sound.

‘endurance’ has been programmed, recorded and produced in summer 2017 when piayda returned home from hospital after having a surgery to fix a pilon fracture (check the journal: 2017-10-03 the man who fell to earth (and broke a leg) | entry by sven) and using the time for a new album. the album features 20 tracks and is mostly inspired by aphex twin, boards of canada (in the pre-warp era) and guitar work by queen and seefeel. it is supposed to be the best work of record of tides so far, accorting to kreislauf.org label boss andreas buttweiler.

as ‘endurance’ features about 108 minutes of music it is difficult to put it on a physical release. zany music has dropped the plans for a physical release.

nevertheless, ‘endurance’ is now available via

back in 2015 sven piayda was asked to do an online exhibition at gallerie tellerand, a gelsenkirchen based online only gallery project. after being very sceptical at first, the studio developed a show dealing with the issues of digital presentation and reduced dimensions presented in disciplines like photography, cgi, video and sound.
the show was launched on november 1st 2015 and was extended to be shown until january 2016, featuring introduction text and conversation with gallerist michael em walter. the digital show vanished from the web and after the following show the gallery quit business. now, the gallery has updated the achieves and ‘#howdeepisyourlove’ has returned to the digital screen, you experience the virtual only show as it was drafted and presented back in 2015, see links below.
also: ‘four seasons after arcimboldo’ have been part oft he show, they are now on display as postcard versions at galerie gublia in essen.

last friday the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen opened the 'jahresschau gelsenkirchener künstlerinnen und künstler'. we are happy to announce the museum is screening 'heliodorus' within the annual group show of artists living in or being connected to gelsenkirchen. 'heliodorus' is an endless video loop exploring a golden relief. the piece had been produced over the last months in a quite long production period (check the news) using up-to-date hardware for complex polygone figures.

as you can see above, sven piayda joined the opening, here he is recently doing an interview for the museums social meda channels. additionally a catalogue is available from the museum for 15 euro only.more photos, features and upcoming events are supposed to follow!

recently on display: in november 2018 the galerie treppenhaus in erlangen opened ‘hochhaus - hütte – hinterhof, der reiz des ungeliebten‘ by thomas r. hoeß, gabriella héjja and karla köhler. the exhibition featured collaborative works by karla köhler and sven piayda like the ‘granada interface’ music video for record of tides, the ‘from new york to los angeles’ series and the ‘k-city’ series. the exhibition ended in february 2019 but returned now as permanent exhibition in the first floor of galerie treppenhaus. this permanent version of the show only features köhler´s and piayda´s ‘k-city’ series. the exhibition is supposed to be on display until the end of the year.

‘endurance’ has been programmed, recorded and produced in summer 2017 when piayda returned home from hospital after having a surgery to fix a pilon fracture (check the journal: 2017-10-03 the man who fell to earth (and broke a leg) | entry by sven) and using the time for a new album. the album features 20 tracks and is mostly inspired by aphex twin, boards of canada (in the pre-warp era) and guitar work by queen and seefeel. it is supposed to be the best work of record of tides so far, accorting to kreislauf.org label boss andreas buttweiler.

as ‘endurance’ features about 108 minutes of music it is difficult to put it on a physical release. zany music has dropped the plans for a physical release.

back in 2015 sven piayda was asked to do an online exhibition at gallerie tellerand, a gelsenkirchen based online only gallery project. after being very sceptical at first, the studio developed a show dealing with the issues of digital presentation and reduced dimensions presented in disciplines like photography, cgi, video and sound.
the show was launched on november 1st 2015 and was extended to be shown until january 2016, featuring introduction text and conversation with gallerist michael em walter. the digital show vanished from the web and after the following show the gallery quit business. now, the gallery has updated the achieves and ‘#howdeepisyourlove’ has returned to the digital screen, you experience the virtual only show as it was drafted and presented back in 2015, see links below.
also: ‘four seasons after arcimboldo’ have been part oft he show, they are now on display as postcard versions at galerie gublia in essen.

record of tides was also scheduled to play on october 12 at makroscope in mülheim among further electronic acts, unfortunately record of tides will not perform because of schedule difficulties. sven piayda announced to have already worked on new sounds and even visuals for the upcoming show but promised to bring up the new material next time. new live performances are not expected before 2020.

this autumn we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘portrait’. on september 25, 1999, zany music released sven piayda’s debut album on compact disc. the album was well appreciated and is a classic release today, also it was the first compact disc zany music put out after releasing different tapes in the years before.

‘portrait’ is based upon songs written in the years before, it was recorded in spring and summer 1999 at roberg records in gelsenkirchen by producer gerd bückins. all programming of midi and samples had been done by electronic producer thorsten ruby before. also the tracks became the base for the band ‘apologies’ which was founded as a classic rock trio back in 2000 to perform the songs live. without any gig but some open rehearsals the group split off in 2001, so piayda focussed on the follow up album ‘diptych’.

looking back on the analogue 8-track production of ‘portrait’, the songs might appear naïve but already have an idea of variation, sound and bombast arrangement. even when sven piayda appeared in very different groups and projects and styles like electronica, lo-fi jazz, avant-garde pop and metal, ‘portrait’ is still the starting point for decades of ambitioned music.

‘portrait’ is out on zany music but still not available digitally, this album is bound to its medium and is evidence for an era. the original bunch of copies is sold out, the tenth anniversary edition is still available. please contact zany music for purchase.

next to the ‘portrait’ anniversary we are celebrating further releases which had been put out ten years ago: ‘the senary process’ was released on october 12, 2009 on cd and mp3 via zany music. the release is the sixth solo album and therefore the fifth follow up to ‘portrait’. also it is the last self-titles solo album piayda did in his music carrier. he started to work on a seventh album but has abandoned the project and has never released any songs from the sessions. It believed that some pieces have been used in tracks by AESTATE and record of tides.

on october 31, 2009 zany music released ‘the evidence’ by the flamma piayda complex. the album is a collaborative work by sebastian flamma and sven piayda featuring songs based upon heavy riffing in the genres between pop and metal. the album is still available on cd as well as via download on request. the album was recorded in only five sessions. the project was believed to be continued, unfortunately there haven’t been releases or gig afterwards so we can assume the project as ended.

sven piayda has already announced to have ended the 2019 record of tides live era to focus on putting out available live bootlegs as well as new albums. now the makroscope in mülheim as scheduled an electric café night for october 10. recently there are no acts officially announced but there are rumours of record of tides doing a short av live set. nothing is save so far, in case of any confirmation you will find out here.

on saturday, september 14 at 10 pm numerous heimaterde residents open their yards (or front garden meadows) once again for sale. this will be an opportunity for you to spent a day in the historic settlement and enjoy the flea market.
as being a resident in the historic heimaterde in mülheim an der ruhr since 2012, sven piayda has announced to join the sale. next to dismissed stuff from the house there will also be the opportunity to get some art works at special prices and conditions, sketch works and post cards. also you can get some (music) equipment for good prices. also, you will probably get a jar honey from the beekeeper friends, 'heimaterder wabenglück' has quit business in the beginning of the year.

after a short summer break the sven piayda studio has reopened to work on the upcoming solo show ‘if and only if’ at SG1 in duisburg. according to the studio is the concept done for months now but certain works have to be produced now from postcards, sound works to complex video installations. the online appearance of the studio is also supposed to be updated but has not been changed yet.

you can already download the show reader for ‘if and only if’ over at the /CAMP. the reader may change over time as the studio may come up with modifications.

recently you can vist the SG1 for the klaus jost solo show, which has been recommended by sven in has last blog post (2019-08-02 back to mudam, again and again and again | entry by sven).

the SG1 has scheduled the opening of the upcoming sven piayda solo exhibition for 2019-11-11. 7 pm. as the studio is working on the show concept for quite a while now, you can read the recemntly 16 page paper and watch it growing: a further update is supposed to be added asap. warning: spoilers!

update 2019-08-22: even if the current exhibition HOCHHAUS - HÜTTE - HINTERHOF is still sucessfull on display, karla köhler and sven piayda have announced to be working on further collaborative works and future exhibitions together. more to come.




update 2019-09-03: sven piayda has already announced to have ended the 2019 record of tides live era to focus on putting out available live bootlegs as well as new albums. now the makroscope in mülheim as scheduled an electric café night for october 10. recently there are no acts officially announced but there are rumours of record of tides doing a short av live set. nothing is save so far, in case of any confirmation you will find out here.

'endurance', the fourth full length album by record of tides is released once again by the hamburg based netlabel kreislauf.org and and is distributed by achive.org and sonicsquirrel.net.

‘endurance’ has been programmed, recorded and produced in summer 2017 when piayda returned home from hospital after having a surgery to fix a pilon fracture (check the journal: 2017-10-03 the man who fell to earth (and broke a leg) | entry by sven) and using the time for a new album. the album features 20 tracks and is mostly inspired by aphex twin, boards of canada (in the pre-warp era) and guitar work by queen and seefeel. it is supposed to be the best work of record of tides so far, accorting to kreislauf.org label boss andreas buttweiler.

as ‘endurance’ features about 108 minutes of music it is difficult to put it on a physical release. zany music has dropped the plans for a physical release.

nevertheless, ‘endurance’ is now available via
kreislauf.org and distributed via archive.org and sonicsquirrel.net.
